There are other part consolidation solutions out there. But ArcelorMittal MPI is the only one that saves costs without sacrificing safety.

The secret lies in our patented laser-welding technology: partial ablation.

Stronger welds. Safer cars.

Press-hardened steel (PHS) is the gold standard in strength, crash performance and repairability – all without the high switching costs of alternative materials. Yet welds can become brittle if too much of the protective aluminium-silicon coating enters the joint.

Not with MPI. Our unique partial ablation technique removes a narrow strip of coating around the weld, leaving the rest intact. This is the only industrial process available today that guarantees the weld is as strong as the base material.

Our Charpy test gives you confidence in the results, confirming crash performance without the cost of full vehicle testing. This speeds up development time of new steel combinations and welding processes, while ensuring the safe crash behaviour of new body designs.
